How to Download Google Books

This wikiHow teaches you how to download books using the Google Play Books app on a mobile device or using the Google Books website.[1]

Method One of Three:
iPhone and iPad

    Open the Google Play Books app.
    • If you don't have the app, go to the App Store, search for "Google Play Books", tap GET then tap INSTALL and, after it's downloaded, OPEN.
    • Tap your Google account, or enter the email and password associated with your Google account if you're not logged in automatically.

    Tap in the upper-left corner of the screen.

    Tap My Library.
  4. 4
    Tap in the lower-right corner of a book's icon. The book will download to your device.

    Download a free sample of a book that's not in your library.
    • Tap ≡ in the upper-left corner.
    • Tap Read Now.
    • Tap the magnifying glass icon at the top of the screen.
    • Type an author, title, or keyword in the search field.
    • Scroll down and tap a book that interests you. The sample will download automatically.

    Add a new book to your library.
    • Go to https://play.google.com/store/books in a Web browser and sign in with your Google account.
    • Type an author, title, or keyword in the search field at the top of the window.
    • Tap the price (or FREE) in the lower-right corner of the book's icon. If prompted, confirm your purchase.
    • Return to the Google Play Books app on your device and download the book from your library using the steps above.

Android

    Open the Google Play Books app.

    • Tap Search at the top of the screen.
    • Type an author, title, or keyword in the search field.
    • Scroll down and tap a book that interests you.
    • Tap Free sample to download a sample of the book or tap Buy to purchase the book.
    • Confirm the purchase. The book will download it to your device.

Desktop

    Go to https://play.google.com/books in a Web browser.

    Click in the lower-right corner of a book's icon.
    • Samples cannot be downloaded to desktop.

    Download the book.
    • Click Download EPUB to save the book in a format that's best for ebook readers.
    • Click Download PDF to save the book in PDF format.

    Type the characters to prove you're not a bot and click Submit.

    Select an app in which to open the downloaded book.

    Add a new book or sample to your library.
    • Go to https://play.google.com/store/books in a Web browser and sign in with your Google account.
    • Type an author, title, or keyword in the search field at the top of the window.
    • Click on a book.
    • Click the price (or FREE) or Free sample at the top of the window. If prompted, confirm your purchase.
    • Follow the steps above to download the book to your computer.
